Who we are

The first step in success.

Reading Friends is a prestigious academic preschool that uses its own curriculum to teach to all learning styles through a multi-sensory approach based on Orton-Gillingham principles. All children graduate from this program with the confidence and the tools they need for future success in school. The teachers focus not only on the academic development of the students, but each teacher is dedicated to providing a loving, nurturing, and empowering environment for every child to feel confident and successful both inside and outside the classroom.

The Reading Friends Difference

Curriculum

The Phonics Advantage curriculum is a language-based program at the heart of our proprietary approach. It’s a multi-sensory teaching technique involving the total child. Students receive structured academic experiences that build a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, spelling, and expression—designed to support every learning style.

Social

Children enjoy daily outdoor play and a mid-morning snack where they practice social interaction and cooperation. Good manners and kindness are modeled and praised as teachers help children learn classroom etiquette and the qualities of strong leaders.

Hours

We mirror the rhythms of a real-world school day to prepare children for a smooth transition to elementary school. Our school year begins in September and runs through May.

Student Ratios

We intentionally serve a finite number of children to maintain the nurturing intimacy that builds self-confidence in the classroom. Typical student-to-teacher ratios:

  • Developmental — 12:2
  • Primary — 12:1
  • Pre-K — 13:1
  • K1 Kindergarten — 22:2

Thank you for considering our unique program. We hope you’ll allow us to partner with you in your child’s early educational journey.

History

Founder’s Vision

Nancy Thompson Spencer, told in 4th grade she’d never make it to college, proved everyone wrong. She earned her degree in education with a special education endorsement from TCU, and later became a Certified Academic Language Therapist through Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.

First Five Years

The original Reading Friends grew quickly from a bookstore classroom to a “little red school” in West Fort Worth. Community demand and steady growth led to an expanded curriculum and a bigger space.

35+ Years of Success

For over 35 years, Reading Friends has served discerning families with its unique multi-sensory curriculum, creating confident learners and strong academic foundations.

Keller Location

Marsha Wesley, inspired by her own children’s growth, opened the Keller franchise. Her two youngest excelled after receiving the strong foundation that Reading Friends provides. Truly, the first step to success!
